Aluminium is a light weight construction material that has allowed designers to shape and colour building projects  since the 1950’s and 1960’s. Although Aluminium does not rust, air pollutants, environmental exposure and surface contaminants cause aluminum cladding to become discoloured and develop pitting on its surface.

There are three main surface coatings used on aluminium:

Unfinished aluminium, which were often used on government buildings in the 1950’s – 1960’s and are usually dull silver in colour.
Anodised finishes are usually silver, bronze, gold or black and were used in the 1960’s – 1970’s.  Since this time the colour choice has expanded as the anodising process has improved and anodised aluminium cladding is now used on high grade HQ buildings.
Used since the 1980’s PPC finishes can be designed to individual specification and produced in any metallic or flat colour.
